Tangerine Toad music was started by Aubrey in 2007 to promote the CD of the same name.
"The plan was, and still is, to make songs for a segment of society that is largely un-catered-to by the music industry as a whole. That is, people like myself who may have outgrown commercial pop music, but not our inherent love of music," says Aubrey.
"I wanted this to sound a little different, but still be very
easy to listen to. I knew I wanted to mix vintage and modern sounds, influences", he says. "I wanted to make something I really liked, and that others could feel good about."
On the business of music.
"We're learning that the business side is very different
from the music side. Not that marketing or promoting isn't a creative endeavor. It is. But I find we have a lot more to learn on this journey".
"I'd always suspected that record labels were run by guys in Armani suits with fancy chairs" he jokes, "all fighting for a corner office. (We have) none of those problems. And we get to learn what really happens, from the ground up. Mistakes and all."
"Besides, its always fun to be part of a small group of outsiders who take on 'the big boys' at their game."
